Is Your Grief Real?

The death of a pet is a very real loss. Family pets hold a special place in our hearts with their love and attention. When your family pet dies, there can be an overwhelming feeling of loss, pain and loneliness.

At such an emotional time, it is important to find comfort in knowing that your sorrow is natural and that there is compassion for your loss.  It helps to honor the memory of your pet with an appropriate memorial that is most meaningful for your family.

We at Chesapeake Pet Crematory understand that a pet’s death can be life-altering.  Most people are not aware of all of the unique and personalized ways of saying goodbye to their pets.

You Have Options

The ability of your family members to grieve together and support one another is vital to helping the entire family cope with the loss of a pet. A ceremony, usually held in the home, can be informal and private or as elaborate as you want. If you like, we at Chesapeake Pet Crematory can help you plan an event that celebrates the life of your pet.

Some owners choose to bury their pets on their own property (subject to local laws) or at a pet cemetery. But today most pet owners choose cremation. Chesapeake Pet Crematory offers a variety of services at competitive prices to fit your needs.

All of our pet cremations are performed individually, with equipment designed specially for pets. Strict safeguards ensure that the cremated remains you receive back are only those of your pet. The ashes are accompanied by a certificate of individual cremation.

Most people keep the cremated remains at home. Other options include scattering or burying the ashes.

We have a wide variety of urns to choose from, ranging from very basic containers to beautifully designed urns. Some may be engraved with your pet’s name or even a photo of your pet right on the urn. Keepsake jewelry items allow you to keep your lost pet close to your heart.

You may wish to create a memorial area in your garden where your pet’s body or ashes are buried or scattered. Our engraved stepping stones and biodegradable urns can help you create a wonderful garden memorial for your pet.

Don’t be ashamed of the grief that you are feeling or the comfort that you will experience in planning your pet’s memorial.  You have a need to honor your beloved pet—and that is all right.

Grief does diminish eventually, but there is no schedule or time limit for grief. If you are not coping well, you may wish to seek counseling or find a support group.  At Chesapeake Pet Crematory, we can assist you in finding a pet grief counselor or self-help group.  There are wonderful people and organizations ready to help you through your grief as well as understand it.

It can take a while to sort out all that you are feeling.  A new pet cannot replace your old pet, but it can help ease the pain.  Only you can decide when the time is ready to shower your love onto another pet.

Healing begins when you face your grief and realize that you are not alone.
